Former President William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the opposition New Patriotic Party’s return to power in 2028 will hinge on unity and a stronger connection with its grassroots.

According to him, rebuilding the party after the 2024 defeat will require internal cohesion and effective mobilisation at the base.

He said this when the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) of the party called on him at his office on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to formally invite him to the 2026 National Delegates Conference.

Akufo-Addo commended the committee for its work so far, and assured them of his support, confirming he will attend the conference.

The meeting was disclosed by the Chairman of the NOEC, Frederick Opare-Ansah, in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

He expressed the Committee’s gratitude to the former President for his counsel and encouragement.

He added that the engagement forms part of ongoing consultations with key figures of the party ahead of the conference and the election of new national officers.
