General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has tasked the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives, led by Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), to work towards securing a decisive victory for the party in the 2028 general elections.
He said the Ashanti Region, widely regarded as the NPP’s stronghold, must play a leading role in efforts to maximise votes for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at a thanksgiving service organised by the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives, he urged the executives to capitalise on the support they currently enjoying and work towards rebuilding the party’s electoral fortunes in the region.
“You are all aware that NPP depreciated in the votes we obtained in the 2020 election as compared to 2024, and we need to change the narrative. On behalf of the national executives of the party, I’m tasking Ashanti Regional executives to work extra hard to maximise votes for Dr Bawumia,” he stated.
He added: “Ashanti Region must lead the charge to help Bawumia win the 2028 general election.”
According to JFK, the outcome of the 2028 elections will depend significantly on the performance of the NPP in the Ashanti Region.
He therefore appealed to the newly elected regional executives to target more than 1.5 million votes for the party in the region.
“The victory of NPP in 2028 will be determined by the Ashanti Region. We’re therefore giving you (COKA and executives) a target of more than 1.5 million votes,” he stated.
He also reminded the executives of the need to recover votes the party lost in the 2024 election while working to increase its support beyond previous levels.
JFK further appealed to the new regional leadership to maintain unity and avoid divisions within the party.
He said he had observed that all 47 constituency executives were supporting the new regional administration and urged the leadership to build on that support by bringing all party members on board.
“I’m expecting you to build on this support and bring everyone on board to ensure a resounding victory for NPP in 2028,” he said.
JFK made the remarks at a thanksgiving service held at Gracefields Temple-Havillah City Temple, Ahodwo, Kumasi, under the theme “A Heart of Gratitude; A Life of Praise.”
The service brought together current and former NPP executives, former chief executives of state institutions, former ministers of state, as well as incumbent and former Members of Parliament.
The event was marked by prayers, singing and dancing as the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives expressed gratitude for what they described as a successful regional election.
JFK, who is widely tipped to retain his position as NPP General Secretary, also congratulated the new regional executives and appealed to them to remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
