President John Dramani Mahama is expected to on Friday, September 18, 2026, commission an exercise to evacuate waste from Agbogbloshie in Accra to the Adepa Landfill Site at Nsawam.

The exercise, which covers approximately 42 kilometres, is being organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.

The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) is also supporting the exercise.

The commissioning ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the IRECOP Management Centre at Jamestown in Accra.

President Mahama is expected to serve as the Guest of Honour at the ceremony, which forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to address waste management and sanitation challenges in the capital.

The evacuation of accumulated waste from Agbogbloshie is expected to contribute to efforts to improve sanitation and restore the environment in and around the area.

The exercise also highlights the government’s collaboration with state institutions to tackle sanitation challenges and improve waste management systems in Accra.
