General Assembly (UNGA), the Presidency Communications has announced.
According to a statement dated 19 September 2026 and signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama departed today.
This year’s UNGA is on the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
Two key side events
President Mahama will host two key side events aimed at supporting Africa’s renewal and advancing global action on historical justice.
On Monday, 21 September 2026, he will host a High-Level Event on the Accra Reset, convening world leaders to discuss “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, a second side event on the ‘Next Steps’ will address “From Commitments to Action on Reparatory Justice: Advancing International Cooperation for the Return and Restitution of Cultural Properties and Heritage.”
General Debate on Thursday
President Mahama will deliver Ghana’s official statement during the main General Debate at the UN General Assembly on Thursday, 24 September 2026.
In addition to his speech and main events, the President will participate in meetings to strengthen partnerships, encourage investment, and engage with the diaspora. He will also meet with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General, and top executives from multinational companies.
To promote Ghana as a leading destination for business and investment, the President will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and meet with business leaders at a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce. He will also speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
On Friday, 25 September, President Mahama will host a Town Hall meeting with the Ghanaian community in New York to share updates on his vision for national development.
Accompanying the President are the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, other cabinet ministers, senior officials from the Presidency, and other government officials.
