The Upper West Regional Police Command says it will leave no stone unturned to clamp down on drug trafficking in the region following the seizure of 192 wraps of suspected cocaine in Wa, the regional capital.
The Regional Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, described the seizure as the first of its kind in the Upper West Region. “I must say this is the first in the Upper West Region,” he admitted.
The drugs were intercepted at the ESP Bus Station in Wa on September 6, 2026, after the Police mounted surveillance based on credible intelligence that narcotics were being transported from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave.
Two persons, 26-year-old Isaac Abdulai, a driver’s mate, and Iddrisu Kamaldeen, have since been arrested and remanded by the Wa Magistrate Court to reappear on October 9, 2026.
DCOP Yiribaare said the Command is intensifying road intelligence to ensure no one connected to the trade escapes.
“We are currently still intensifying our intelligence, what we call the road intelligence, to ensure that individuals that are also suspected to be connected to this particular incident or any other are brought to book,” he vowed.
He also issued a strong warning to persons whose vehicles may be used for such activities, saying such people will equally face the full rigours of the law.
“We only want to say that all vehicles that would be used for these drug trades, the owners should be very careful because the law will come at them,” he warned.
The Commander assured that the Police will do everything to nip the emerging trend in the bud. “We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure we are able to nip this particular dimension that is coming up in the Upper West Region,” he stressed.
