Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on President Mahama to address what he described as “excesses” within his administration.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, September 23, the Efuutu MP urged President John Dramani Mahama to reflect on his legacy and use the remainder of his tenure to deliver what he described as meaningful transformation for Ghana.
“Watch these excesses, enough is enough. Call your appointees to order because this is not the Ghana we want,” he said.
“Mr. President, reflect on your legacy. You are left with almost just two years from exiting office. The question is, what would you tell Ghanaians when you are in your quiet moment?” he asked.
He challenged President Mahama to assess whether he had made sufficient use of the opportunity granted him by Ghanaians to lead the country for a second time.
“Can you proudly say, the second opportunity you were given by God, you used that chance to transform your country?” he asked.
The Minority Leader stressed that concerns from the Minority should not be interpreted as an opposition to accountability or the work of state institutions.
“We are not against accountability and we always say that. We are not against any state institution going about its lawful duty as enshrined in any enactment or the Constitution,” he said.
However, he insisted that state institutions must operate within the law.
“What we are saying is that a state institution must be seen to be doing its work lawfully,” Mr Afenyo-Markin added.
