A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, says the manner in which EOCO attempted to arrest Manhyia South lawmaker, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, is a disgrace to the State and does not speak well of the country.
He says the Inspector General of Police and President John Dramani Mahama must take charge of the security agencies because what is being done is being done in the name of the President.
Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, with JB, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Lawyer Ansa-Asare said the incident will affect the political fortunes of the NDC going into the next election if care is not taken.
“So what happened is a disgrace to the State and the way things are going these days doesn’t speak well about us. The IGP should be up and doing and call the police to order,” he stated.
“The President should also sit up because whatever is being done is being done under his name. He is not even in the country and this has happened but he is the President so everything falls back to him,” he added.
He said persons seeking to replace President Mahama will have to market themselves ahead of the next election, and incidents like this will go against them. “Then again, we’ll be going for an election and those who would be seeking to replace Mahama need to market themselves and so if Asiedu Nketia for instance wins the flagbearer now, whatever is happening will go against him,” he cautioned.

EOCO officials attempted to arrest the MP shortly after he appeared as counsel social commentator Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who is facing charges linked to the ‘Ghana Jollof’ TikTok account.
A video circulating on social media showed a woman identifying herself as an EOCO official approaching the MP and asking him to accompany her to the EOCO office. The MP, however, questioned her authority and demanded to see her ID, which he claims she failed to produce.
The MP subsequently drove off to Parliament to seek sanctuary, describing the incident as “state-sponsored kidnapping.”
EOCO, in a statement later that day, said the attempted arrest was part of lawful steps to secure his attendance for an ongoing investigation after he failed to honour two invitations extended to him in February 2026.
The Office said the arrest was not completed after officers assessed that further action could endanger public safety, and added that it had identified two persons who allegedly facilitated the MP’s escape.
