The High Court in Accra has denied a bail application for Salomey Awiti Baffoe, the 40-year-old Senior Nursing Officer from Techiman who is facing charges in the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok case.
The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the accused is still needed to assist with ongoing investigations.
In its ruling on Thursday, September 24, the presiding judge noted that granting Salome Baffoe bail could interfere with cyber investigations being conducted by Police investigators.
Her lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, had urged the court to grant her bail, arguing that her client is innocent and entitled to bail.
He argued that the prosecution had failed to demonstrate why bail should not be granted and did not provide sufficient grounds for the continued detention of his client.
Salome is to remain in custody until the next court hearing slated for September 30.
Salome Awiti Baffoe has been charged with abetting the publication of false news in connection with Ghana Jollof, a tiktok account alleged to be involved in publishing false news and incendiary comments against the government.
The court consequently declined the bail application and directed the Republic to expedite its investigations.
