The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that its investigations so far have established that TikToker, Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as Ghana Jollof paid Salomey Awitti Baffoe and other persons to redistribute her false information on various social media platforms.
Salomey Awitti Baffoe, a nurse based in Techiman, is currently in police custody after she was arrested and put before court on allegations that she aided the dissemination of videos produced by Barbara Asantewaa Kodua.
According to the Police, the development forms part of investigations into alleged illicit online activities involving the publication and circulation of content deemed capable of causing fear, alarm and violence.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, September 18, 2026, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the Police had been monitoring a TikTok account operating under the name “Ghana Jollof.”
She said police intelligence identified the account owner as Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, who is believed to be domiciled in the United Kingdom.
According to the CID Director-General, Barbara Kodua had, over a period, used the platform to produce and publish videos containing what investigators consider inciteful comments and false information.
COP Donkor cited as one of the videos under investigation a claim by Ms Kodua that there had been a near coup d’état at the Jubilee House.
The Police subsequently identified Salomey Awitti Baffoe as an alleged accomplice who assisted in disseminating the videos.
“Investigations have so far established that Salomey Awitti Baffoe assisted in the dissemination of the videos produced by Barbara Asantewaa Kodua by recruiting other persons to redistribute and circulate the material through various social media platforms,” COP Donkor said.
According to the Police, investigations have also established an alleged financial arrangement between Barbara Kodua and Salomey.
COP Donkor said Kodua, while based in the United Kingdom, allegedly remitted money to Salomey in Ghana to support the activities.
Ms Awitti is further alleged to have distributed portions of the funds to other individuals involved in redistributing and circulating Ms Kodua’s videos across various social media platforms.
The Police further said forensic examination of Ms Awitti’s mobile phone, including audio and video files and mobile money transaction records, had revealed financial transactions allegedly connected to the activities.
“Investigations further reveal financial arrangement between the two persons whereby Barbara Asantewaa Kodua while domiciled in United Kingdom remitted money to Salomey Awitti in Ghana in support these activities.
“Salomey Awitti subsequently distributed portions of those funds to other persons involved in the redistribution and circulation of videos produced by Barabara Asantewaa Kodua through various social media platforms,” COP Donkor revealed.
She added: “Forensic analysis of voices and other details of thorough investigations of her abetting the various act have been retrieved from her phone records and transcript made of them, all of which will be tendered in evidence in court.”
COP Donkor said investigators had identified what they described as “highly influential persons in society” who allegedly transferred significant sums of money to Ms , who then shared portions of the funds with Ms Kodua.
“Forensic examination of the audio and video files of the mobile phone in custody as well as mobile money transaction records indicate that highly influential persons in society have transferred significant sums of money to the suspect, Salomey Awitti who in turn shares them with Ghana Jollof.
“It will interest you to know that the Police also know all those, including high-profile persons within our society, who are funding them through information retrieved from her phones,” she said.
The Police also said some individuals had consistently provided financial support to Barbara Kodua’s online activities.
“It has also been established that some persons have also consistently sponsored the illicit online activities of Barbara Asantewaa Kodua financially,” she noted.
Through a joint operation involving the National Signal Bureau and the Ghana Police Service, Salomey was arrested and put before the court on a charge of abetment of crime, to wit publication of false news.
She was subsequently remanded into police custody to assist with investigations and is expected to reappear in court on September 30, 2026.
The Police said investigations are continuing to identify and locate other individuals allegedly involved in the redistribution of the videos, as well as persons suspected of financially sponsoring the activities.
COP Donkor said those identified through the ongoing investigations would be brought before the court.
