The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam has revealed that President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama will grace the World Assemblies of God Congress taking place in Accra from 14th to 16th October 2026.
The event is under the theme: “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation.”
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Rev. Wengam stressed that the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Singapore, Rev. Dominic Yeo, and former President of Malawi and former General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Malawi, Rev. Lazarus Chakwera, are also expected to grace the occasion.
In total, he said, more than 10,000 delegates from 100 countries are expected to converge on Accra for the World Congress, adding that the historic event will serve as a magnet to attract thousands of tourists and a good number of investors to Ghana.
“These huge arrivals will greatly boost the hospitality industry and significantly impact the national economy. Thousands of local businesses, transport operators, food sellers and petty traders will also benefit massively,” he stressed.
The General Superintendent, who was flanked by his Executive Officers, described the Congress as historic, emphasising that it is the very first time in the 115-year history of the Assemblies of God Fellowship that its World Congress is taking place in Africa.
“The 9th Triennial Congress was held in 2023 in Madrid, Spain, where the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Tanzania, Rev. Barnabas Mtokambali, took the forum by storm and proposed Ghana as the host of the 10th Congress. In fact, we were under no illusion about the magnitude of the challenges that would assail Assemblies of God, Ghana, when we accepted to host the global Assemblies of God community here in Accra. We plucked up divine faith to do the unthinkable. And the God of perfect faithfulness has since rallied to our aid on a grand scale,” Rev. Wengam revealed.
He revealed that, in readiness for the historic Congress, the Church inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC), chaired by the Greater Accra East Regional Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia.
He added that the World Congress Secretariat was later established at the Assemblies of God Headquarters to help sharpen “our efforts towards the global event”.
He commended the LOC and the Secretariat, headed by Gifty Agyei-Fiankoh, whom he said have so far proved equal to the gigantic task, expressing the hope that they will scale up the momentum as they cross the finishing line.
Touching on the programme outline, the General Superintendent revealed that there will be morning sessions at the Black Star Square in Accra, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to cross-fertilise ideas, capacitate church leaders and members, and uplift the denomination to higher heights.
“After these sessions, all attention will switch to evening revival rallies for all denominations at the Accra Sports Stadium. Attendance is free. This does not, in any way, devalue the spiritual weight of the revival rallies,” Rev. Wengam indicated.
“The theme for the World Assemblies of God Congress, _Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation_, is not a mere slogan but a strident call on all Assemblies of God churches, pastors and members to win more souls and plant at least one million churches by the year 2033. The MM33 target is to mark 2,000 years of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
The General Superintendent later appealed to the media to place premium on the Congress and give it the necessary publicity it deserves, given the tourism and economic advantages it brings to the country.
“We are specifically appealing to all traditional and social media practitioners, particularly editors, sub-editors, reporters, producers, presenters, commentators, analysts and bloggers: Please identify yourselves with the historic World Assemblies of God Congress as you unlock the full scope of the power you wield and the influence you peddle to help make it an outstanding success.
As Ghana steals the spotlight of global attention, saturate the offline and online spaces with quality and edifying content on the World Congress in order to sell our image maximally and feed media consumers adequately.
This is not a mere church event but a global assignment which must be executed with all-consuming seriousness. And when the history of the 10th Triennial Congress of Assemblies of God is written, the Ghanaian media will occupy a unique place for its exceptional role.”
