Traditional leaders in Obuasi have directed that Obuasi Senior High Technical School be reopened on October 20, 2026, following a prolonged closure over an alleged sexual encounter between the headmaster and a student.
Adansehene Kwamuhene, Nana Kwadu Kwakye II, confirmed the date in an interview with GhanAkoma on Akoma 87.9 FM on Wednesday, October 14.
According to the chief, traditional leaders met with stakeholders in Obuasi to deliberate on the circumstances surrounding the school’s closure and the way forward. He added that a priest would perform traditional rites to cleanse the area ahead of the school’s reopening.
Meanwhile, a concerned parent has expressed frustration over the prolonged closure, claiming that neither the school authorities nor the Ghana Education Service (GES) has provided adequate communication on the situation.
The parent said their ward had been at home for nearly four months, forcing them to organise lessons for the child.
“My ward is at home for almost four months, and I’ve been conducting classes for my little girl, who always cries. I’ve planned to find her a different school because the case is worrisome,” the parent lamented.
The parent also expressed concern about the uncertainty surrounding promotional examinations for Form Two students, noting that the school’s closure occurred just a few moments before the scheduled examinations.
“We don’t even know if the Form Two students will be writing promotional exams or not because the closure occurred a few moments before the exams,” the parent said.
The prolonged closure has raised concerns among parents about its impact on students’ academic progress, particularly those preparing for examinations and other important academic activities.
