Tension has heightened at Twedie Technical Institute, where the NDC constituency elections in Atwima Kwanwoma in the Ashanti Region are underway, following a dispute over the alleged removal and replacement of delegates.
The latest development saw some party supporters invoke curses on executives, declaring that any person who is not from the constituency but has been registered to vote in the elections should face the wrath of the gods.
The incident comes amid earlier allegations by some constituency executives that more than 700 delegates had been removed from the party’s album, raising concerns about the credibility and peaceful conduct of the elections.
The aggrieved members allege that legitimate delegates have been replaced by others, a claim that has heightened tensions at the voting centre.
The constituency has 240 polling stations, with a total of 2,160 delegates expected to participate in the elections, according to information provided to Akoma News.
Some of the aggrieved party members spoke to Akoma News about their concerns and the circumstances that led to the invocation of curses.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Chairman on the NDC, Andrew Augustus Nana Akwasi, has urged members of the party to uphold peace and ensure the sanctity of Saturday’s constituency elections.
He stressed the need for members to keep a united front, noting that the main battle lies in the 2028 general elections.
“I call on all aspirants, supporters, and stakeholders to uphold peace, mutual respect, and the spirit of comradeship throughout this process. Let us put aside our differences, heal any divisions and work together towards our shared goal of strengthening the NDC in the Ashanti Region and securing an even greater victory in the 2028 general elections,” his statement said.
More than 6,000 delegates are expected to vote in 47 constituencies across the region.
