Work on the 25-kilometre Takoradi–Agona Nkwanta road is nearing completion, with the contractor, JUSTMOH Construction Limited, targeting a handover by the end of November 2026, more than three months ahead of the original schedule.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Justice Amoh, says major construction works, including concrete bridges and a roundabout, have been completed, with about five days’ worth of asphalt overlay work remaining.

“We are almost done,” Amoh said. “With regards to the asphalt works, we are left with about five days’ work to complete the entire stretch.”

He said road marking and the installation of guardrails were also underway as the company prepared to hand over the dual carriageway.

Despite the progress, residents of Aboade and adjoining communities have raised concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety. Some have strung mooring ropes across sections of the road in an attempt to slow motorists down.

The Chief of Aboade, Nana Etsin Kofi II, said about five people had been struck and killed by vehicles since the project began.

“Since the project started, about five people have been knocked down and killed. Just recently, a school kid was run over by a vehicle,” he said.

The chief’s account highlights residents’ concerns about crossing the road following the laying of asphalt through the community.

Responding to the concerns, Amoh appealed to residents to stop placing mooring ropes across the carriageway, citing the safety of drivers and other road users.

He said seven footbridges had been approved by the Ministry of Roads and Highways for installation along the route, with construction expected to begin shortly after the main project was handed over.

“On the entire stretch, we have seven footbridges approved by the Ministry [of Roads and Highways] for us to install. We are currently working on them,” he said.

Mr Amoh also said road signs and other safety installations would be completed as part of the project.

Motorists using the Takoradi–Agona Nkwanta road have expressed satisfaction with the progress of work. With the handover approaching, they expect the opening of all sections to improve traffic flow along the corridor.

For residents of Aboade, however, pedestrian safety remains a concern as they await the promised footbridges.
