The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has cleared unauthorised structures around the Achimota New Overhead, where the Ayalolo bus stop is located.

The exercise was led by the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

According to the Assembly, the move is to make way for commercial buses, particularly Ayalolo buses, to load and offload passengers without obstruction.

The clearance forms part of efforts to reclaim public spaces occupied by traders and improve access to public transport facilities.

The Assembly said the operation is also intended to ease congestion around the bus stop.

The Mayor, in collaboration with the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, is also seeking to remove structures and trading activities from unauthorised spaces within the city.

The exercise forms part of broader efforts to regulate the use of public spaces and improve traffic management in the capital.
