Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have imposed a fine on Assistant Coach Diogo Peral after an incident involving him and Medeama SC’s Ebenezer Adade during Sunday’s 1-1 draw.
Adade had pushed the technical officer but he got up from the touchline to punch the player, causing a temporary hold-up of proceedings.
After the game, the player and some technical officers of Medeama SC went to the coach to smoke the peace pipe.
Asante Kotoko, however, condemned the incident and sanctioned the assistant coach.
“The Club acknowledges that football is a highly emotional sport, where tensions can sometimes run high, particularly in moments of intense competition,” the statement on Monday said.
“However, we firmly believe that emotions must never compromise the professionalism, discipline, and respect expected of everyone representing this great institution.
“Following discussions with the coach, he has acknowledged that he could have handled the situation better and conducted himself more professionally.”
Asante Kotoko maintained that the conduct by Diogo Peral does not reflect the standards and values the club upholds.
It said the fine is a trigger of its internal disciplinary measures.
“This decision reinforces the Club’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability.”
The club expressed commitment to “fair play, discipline, mutual respect, and the highest standards of professionalism, both on and off the pitch”.
“We urge our supporters and stakeholders to continue to support the team as we remain focused on our objectives for the season.”
