President John Dramani Mahama, has given the firm assurance that work on the Big Push infrastructure projects will continue once the current heavy rains subside.

With the recent rains and severe flooding across the country, work on most of the projects have slowed, causing discomfort to commuters.
Speaking during an inspection of the Kafodzidzi Road Project as part of his working visit to the Central Region, President Mahama explained that the decision to reduce the pace of work is intended to ensure the safety of workers and protect the quality of ongoing construction.

“So, we are satisfied with the pace of work. I am sure it will be finished ahead of schedule. Of course, a lot of the big-bush projects around the country have slowed a bit because of the heavy rainfall we have been experiencing recently. I am sure that as soon as the rainfall subsides, work will continue, because money for the big-bush has been allocated, and it is lying there.  As soon as you bring your certificates, we promise that it will be processed within time and you will get your money quickly,” the President said

He urged the contractors to speed up so that they can present their certificates and be paid.

“We want to deliver as many of these roads as possible. We are scoping phase two of the big-bush to start next year. For those whose roads have not been tackled yet, they can come on phase two. We will continue to improve the road network, because we know that the main means of transport for passengers for goods in Ghana is the roads.

The President further called on the engineers and supervisors to ensure that the compaction is done well.

“Most of the roads fail because the compaction is not well done. It is the one that puts the seal on it. After it rains, the road starts to subside. So, that one is the engineers. I can come and check the compaction. It is with the engineers to make sure that the contractors are being asked to test the compaction and make sure that it is well compacted,” he stated.
