Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has been invited by the Ghana Police Service over his claims that he knows the killer of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
The musician and social commentator made an assertion on social media that he has an information that is pertinent to the case.
A police statement issued Monday, July 15, 2024, said A-Plus comments suggested that he possesses information that will help the course of the investigation.
The police as a result indicated that his invitation will help the progress of the case, highlight the importance of any information that will help arrive at the root of the matter.
“The Ghana Police Service has today, 15th July 2024, invited Mr Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as (A-Plus) to assist Police ongoing investigation into the death of Ahmed Suale, following his recent claims on social media that he has some information regarding the case.”
“The Cold Case Unit established in October 2021, under the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to handle cases of this nature, has been working on the investigation into the case and closely engaging with the deceased’s family.”
“The Police is therefore pleased that Mr Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) has made indication that he has some information that could assist the ongoing investigation, and he has been invited accordingly,” the statement added.
Background
The undercover journalist was in January 2019 shot dead at Madina, near Accra, while driving home.
The motive behind his murder remains unresolved as the Police say they are still hunting for the killers.
According to reports, two unidentified men on a motorbike shot him three times, killing him instantly.
The incident threw the entire media fraternity into a state of shock given the West African nation’s then remarkable press freedom record.
Mr Suale’s undercover investigations had helped to expose human traffickers, corrupt officials and judiciary staff across Africa.
He worked with Tiger Eye, a highly secretive team of investigative journalists led by ace undercover investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The murder of Ahmed Suale has since attracted global condemnation from various human rights institutions, civil society organisations and the media.
