The challenge of residents of Ejisu-Edwenase in the Ashanti region travelling long distance to access potable water will now be a thing of the past.

This is as a result of the provision of a water facility to end the perennial water shortage in the community by two non-governmental organisations; BlockChain Foundation and Built With Bitcoin Foundation.

They have had to leave their community in search of water from nearby communities whenever their water system broke down.

But the community mechanised water system facility provided to them has come as a relief.

Residents say the intervention is timely.

“It’s difficult accessing potable water in this community because we only have one mechanised water system. Whenever it breaks down, we have to walk 5km to Abenase to get water or depend on a stream. So this new water system will reduce our burden,” says Abena Nyamekye, a resident.

An opinion leader in the community, Nana Asare Bediako added “government has not been able to provide potable water in all communities. So, the intervention by these NGOs is commendable. We thank them for resolving our water challenge.”

Founder of Built With Bitcoin, Yusuf Nessary said the gesture is giving back to society.

“For us, it is about putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged. We intend to put up an ICT centre for the youth in this area to bridge the technology gap”

The Foundations have also provided the community with biodigester toilet facilities to bring an end to open defecation.
