Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has filed an RTI request to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for evidence of Rock City Hotel’s tax clearance certificate at the time it bade for the purchase of the four hotels.

Mr. Ablakwa says it couldn’t have been possible that the company had the certificate since it had not filed its tax returns for 2021 and 2022, a revelation he made on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, June 22, 2024.

Rock City Hotel did not have tax clearance certificate at the time of bidding for SSNIT hotels – Ablakwa

In a post he made on X Monday, June 24, 2024, the lawmaker is citing the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) as a basis for Rock City to have been disqualified since it didn’t have the certificate.

“I am further requesting a copy of the full evaluation report; The minutes of all tender committee meetings have also been demanded,” the post added.

Mr. Ablakwa added that he expects the Trust to submit the requested information for transparency and accountability sake.

“I expect SSNIT to comply with the RTI law and submit the requested information in the spirit of transparency and accountability; and as required in the pursuit of my constitutional mandate of parliamentary oversight,” he stated.
