A demolition exercise at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, has been met with resistance from some affected traders, who have clashed with security personnel deployed to the area.
The traders are demanding a refund of GH¢200 they are alleged to have paid to facilitate their relocation. However they claim the local authority is refusing to account for the money.
Tension escalated as the aggrieved traders confronted security officers during the demolition exercise.
“They took GH¢200 from us to facilitate our movement. Yesterday, Zuba (Mayor) came here and asked that we move out. But nobody is accounting for the money they took from us. We feel cheated” an evicted trader told the Akoma news team.
Attempts to get the local authority to react to the allegation proved abortive.
The demolition, which began at about 8:30 this morning, is being carried out by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to pave the way for road expansion and construction works linked to the Suame Interchange project.
