President John Dramani Mahama dominated Ghana’s online political conversation in September 2026, according to the latest edition of IMANI Pulse.
The report analysed 17,806 public posts across X, Facebook and TikTok, generating 4,838 figure-tagged sentiment readings.
Mahama accounted for 57% of all figure-tagged readings, drawing 2,745 mentions; more than the next five political figures combined. His sentiment score was almost neutral at -0.01, with 1,360 positive mentions against 1,125 negative.
Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin recorded the most negative coverage, with 66% of his 454 mentions being negative and a mean score of -0.27. This was linked to his “24-hour cocaine economy” comment and the narcotics-probe clash in Parliament.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson were the only two figures who ended the month with positive sentiment, scoring +0.07 and +0.04 respectively.
The report also found Mahama’s coverage was the most policy-focused, with 73% of his classified mentions about policy, compared to 46% for Bawumia and 7% for Kennedy Agyapong, whose coverage was almost entirely about personality.
