The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says more than 91,000 people have been displaced following recent floods that affected several parts of the country.

Director of Inspectorate Division at NADMO, Richard Amo Yartey, says the situation is largely under control, with most affected persons either returning home or seeking temporary shelter with relatives.

According to him, the displacement was temporary in many cases because some residents have begun cleaning up and returning to their homes.

“This displacement was temporary. Most of the people have gone back and others have gone to stay with family and friends,” he said.

Mr. Amo Yartey disclosed that seven regions were affected, with the Greater Accra Region recording the highest number of displaced persons.

He gave the regional breakdown as follows: Greater Accra recorded 1,461 displaced persons, followed by Central Region with 1,882. Other affected regions include Western Region with 1,037, Eastern Region with 190, and additional figures spread across the remaining impacted areas, bringing the national total to about 91,146 displaced persons.

He said NADMO is currently rolling out relief interventions across the affected communities, including the distribution of food and essential supplies.

“We are doing massive relief across all affected areas by deploying food and non-food items,” he said.

Mr. Amo Yartey added that coordination efforts are ongoing to ensure that all affected persons receive support as recovery operations continue.
