Following the closure o shops in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital last week, the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) have closed down their shops in the national capital, Accra.

The Association says the plummeting Cedi against the dollar is affecting their businesses, asking the government to take urgent steps to revive the economy.

Akua Sarpomaa’s visit to Makola, Okaishie and other big markets in the capital revealed a ghost community of markets which would have been the busiest places any other day.

Some shop owners who spoke to her said their shops will remain closed until the government takes a step to save their businesses by stabilising the Cedi.

Meanwhile, the leadership of GUTA says they will open the shops on Monday.
