Traders numbering over 500 at the Tema station in Accra have kicked against moves by the Klottey-Korley assembly to evacuate them.

They have vowed to resist any attempt by the assembly to sell the place to an estate developer.

The traders clad in red thronged the streets to reaffirm their position not to move away irrespective of the one month altimatum given by the assembly.

Chairman for the traders, Stephen Akakpo addressing the media described the decision to evacuate them as minsensitive and irrational.

He claimed that the assembly has failed to engage and make proper arrangements for them to move.

He has indicated that they have been trading at the place for decades hence would not allow the assembly to evacuate them without preparing a place for them to sustain their livelihoods.

“We are not against development by the point is that the assembly has failed to engage us neither have they prepared a place for us to move.

“And we want to send a signal that we are not ready to leave after trading here for over three decades,” he insisted.

Mr. Akakpo expounded that the assembly invited them for a meeting last month only to compel them to evacuate without a proper arrangement.

Some of the traders on the other hand appealed to President Akufo Addo to intervene to safeguard their livelihoods.

Meanwhile, the traders have vowed to resist the assembly’s move stressing that they are working with bank loans.
