The people of Ada in the Greater Accra region have expressed gratitude to President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his contribution towards the economic fortunes of the residents.
The paramount chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Jetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III, has said the once desolate Songor lagoon has now been turned into an economically viable venture for the residents courtesy the President.
He made the comments during his welcome address at the grand durbar of the Ada Asafotufiami –the firing of musket festival 2024 –at the Presbyterian School park at Bana Saturday, August 03, 2024.
As a major natural endowment of the area, the Songor lagoon, which produces salt, according to the king, used to be desolate until the President’s intervention through Electrochem Ghana Ltd, now providing opportunities for the indigenes.
Jetse Akuaku III expressed hope that the impact of the intervention wields the potential of being nationalised in the foreseeable future.
“Your Excellency, as this year will be your last time of celebrating Ada Asafotufiami with us as president, I want to on behalf of the good people of Ada, express our profound gratitude to you for your bravery and leadership that has turned the once destitute Ada Songor lagoon into a vibrant resource which has began to turn the fortunes of the people of Ada with the potential to turn the fortunes of this country and for better,” the statement read on his behalf contained.
He also advised the politicians to prioritise the peace of the nation in all their activities as Ghana heads into the 2024 general elections.
“I’ll like to take this opportunity to urge all political parties to remain civil in their campaigns and desist from acts that can cause insecurity before, during and after the elections,” a statement read on his behalf indicated.
He further admonished all to contribute their quota towards the peace of the nation, saying it is a call to national duty.
“I, therefore admonish all to see the upcoming elections as a call to national duty and contribute their quota to the democratic dispensation we are currently enjoying as a nation.
“Let us respect each other. For without peace, there will be no nation for any of us called Ghana,” he added.
