The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been advised to sack all persons who are aligned with former President Akufo-Addo from the party to become viable again.
“Rescue the soul of the party, rid the party of all remnants of ‘Akufo-Addoism’ and make sure that the party is restored to its tradition to become viable in some future elections,” said Prof. Gyampo.
The University of Ghana’s Professor of political science, Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, who made the comments says Ghana as a multi-party democracy needs a viable opposition for the government to perform well.
He has indicated that the performance of Akufo-Addo has made the NPP the worst party ever to lead Ghana, rendering it incompetent to criticise the current party in power, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The political analyst, who was speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, January 11, 2025, was condemning members of the NPP’s attempt to criticise the newly inaugurated government.
He says the NPP has no locus to criticise the current government if their performance was anything to go by.
The political scientist has advised members of the party to “just keep quiet, focus on your party that is in tatters, that is risking disintegration.”
He disclosed that his outfit was presented with a paper for review which centred on governance and tends to criticise the less than a week-old NDC administration, making him inform the NPP to concentrate on building their party which is on the brink of disintegration, than to be criticising when they themselves know nothing about governance.
“You do not even have a clue when it comes to governance and so on what basis are you going to be criticising?” he quizzed.
He said he wants the NPP to be reformed because “Ghana is a multi-party democracy so we need a viable opposition” that will help keep the government on its toes.
