Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak were among qualifiers to the Round of 16 of the 2024/25 MTN Cup.

Hearts of Oak beat Division One League side Home Stars FC to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Second-half goals by Mawuli Wayo, Martin Karikari and Asamoah Boateng at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium gave the Phobians the ticket to the next round.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Asante Kotoko scored in each half of their Round of 32 game against Division Two League side Accerler8z FC to win 2-0.

In-form Kwame Poku scored from the spot in the first half and Henry Ansu doubled the lead in the second half.

Other Premier League sides that progressed include Berekum Chelsea, who beat Debibi United 4-2 on penalties after the match ended 1-1, and Karela United, who beat TF Exponential 4-1.

There were all-GPL affairs including Basake Holy Stars-Bibiani Gold Stars, Bechem United-Nations FC, and Nsoatreman FC-Young Apostles.

Incidentally, the winners from those encounters were Bibiani Gold Stars, Bechem United and Young Apostles.

Some top-flight clubs including Dreams FC and Accra, unfortunately, lost to lower-division sides.
