Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has accused the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee of flying drones in an alleged surveillance operation to spy on his private properties.

He says he personally saw the drones over his properties in Accra and was equally informed of same about those he owns at Winneba in the Central region.

The Effutu lawmaker says he remained silent over the suspicious activities when his associates informed him of the developments because he knew he had nothing to hide.

Afenyo-Markin’s comments come on the  back of revelations made by Foreign Affairs Minister nominee who is also Chairman of the committee overseeing the ORAL during his vetting in Parliament on Friday, January 31, 2025.

“Before his vetting, ask Ablakwa whether we didn’t sit as brothers. I said, ‘Sammy, there were things that you went overboard. I think if you make concessions, we’ll be fine,’” Afenyo-Markin recounted on Accra-based JoyNews Sunday, February 02, 2025.

He disclosed that the North Tongu legislator and his other team members did not discontinue their surveillance on his properties despite the discussions they had.

“Meanwhile, I was aware that these ORAL guys have been flying drones in Winneba over my property. I kept quiet. I managed it. They went to my beachfront property, mounted a drone, and flew it from the community center near the ‘nshorna.’ My boy saw it. I told them to ignore it,” he said.

After spying on his properties at Winneba, Afenyo-Markin further revealed that the team did not leave his properties at Abelenkpe in Accra.

“In Abelenkpe, you’ll be there in the morning and you’ll see drones flying. The policemen have seen it. They told me, but I said ignore it. Sometimes, early in the morning, we see drones behind the rail line, and I know they are spying on my house. What business do drones have at the Minority Leader’s residence?” he questioned.

Like he said at the vetting, the Minority Leader refuted claims by Ablakwa that his lands at Winneba are state lands.

“The gentleman brought a search report and created the impression that my lands in Winneba are state lands. With the greatest respect [they are not],” he asserted.
