Former Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul, who is also a lawmaker for Bimbila, has said that the new Majority Leader, James Agalga, will need to work hard to get the buy-in of the other Majority Leaders, including the Majority Chief Whip and the deputies.
Nitiwul makes the point that without the support of these other leaders, Agalga will run into severe troubles as Leader.
“If he doesn’t get the cooperation of his front bench, he will be in serious trouble.
“He needs to get the buy-in of the Speaker, the Deputy, his co-leader, and the Minority,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, August 8.
He added “James Algaga will face a lot of problems if he fails to secure the cooperation of his front bench. I am clear in my mind that James Agalga has to work hard to prove himself worthy of the position of Majority leader.”
Meanwhile, the Majority Chief Whip Rockson Nelson Dafeamekor has pledged his support.
“We will offer him our support, the foundation has been built,” he also said on the Key Points.
He added “he is my new boss. He is the new boss. The final decision was taken yesterday; he is my new leader.”
“He is a very articulate lawyer, he has such a huge background of experience in terms of leadership.”
The new Majority Leader James Agalga, has assured that he would not let Ghanaians down in the execution of goverment’s business in parliament.
Although he admits the new role is a tough job, he has the experience in parliament to carry out his assignment.
“It is quite a herculean task, but I can assure you that I have what it takes to deliver. I’ll not let the people of Ghana down as Majority Leader,” he said in an exclusive interview with TV Saturday, August 8.
He added, “I am not new to leadership in Parliament. I served as Ranking Member on the Defence & Interior Committee and oversaw the former Defence Minister [Dominic Nitiwul] for 8 years.”
3News sources can confirm that the Chairperson of the Defence and Interior Committee has been informed by the NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey and the outgoing Majority Leader that he will be the next leader of government business in Parliament.
This followed the nomination of Mahama Ayariga to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
President Mahama also nominated Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister designate of Environment, Science and Technology.
