Some traders at the Agona Swedru market belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have threatened to spit a red spittle to the leadership of the party if it fails to address the matters arising out of the Agona West constituency.

This follows the announcement by their Member of Parliament, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, to contest the seat in the upcoming election as an independent candidate.

Morrison, a former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, lost the constituency’s primary to Chris Arthur, a development the lawmaker is not pleased with.

During an interaction with some party faithful in her constituency, the legislator indicated that the interest of the constituency should be their priority and not who becomes President.

In a video which has since gone viral on social media, the former Minister told the constituents that she was going to contest to complete the work she has started.

In the video, she referred to the completion of a project she is undertaking in the community, at whose commissioning she would communicate her full intentions to the people.

She noted that some women in the community have already began campaigning for her and she was confident she is going to win the election to continue her works for the people.

“I will inform Nana to invite us all for me to relay what I have to you. When I got here some of the women followed me to the school and they told me they have already began their campaign. If God permits, I will contest as independent to complete what I have started,” she told the gathering in Fante.

She continued that “when we are about commissioning the building, I will invite the entire community here and provide an explanation to you all to advise me because in such instances, it is not about the NDC or NPP.”

The comments, which did not go well with the market women, is what they have called on the party leadership to address or see their wrath.

The women say they want the flag bearer of the party to come to the constituency to resolve the issue before they lose the seat.

“We want the leadership to come here. Bawumia you are now our flag bearer so if you don’t come and we lose this seat, we will not take it lightly with you,” said one of the women who spoke on behalf of the market women.

She added that they are ready to support any candidate that represents the party and that if the rank and file of the party do not take steps to address the issue, they will hold the leadership accountable.

“We don’t hate her. We love her that’s why we accepted her. But if you’ve changed her, we are calling on the leadership of the constituency, region and national, to take a step on this issue. If we don’t see any development in the next two days, you’ll have us to contend with,” she fumed.
