Counsel for embattled fetish priestess-turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, have filed a notice of appeal challenging the Circuit Court’s 15-year jail term given to her.
Agradaa was convicted by Justice Evelyn Asamoah on July 3, on charges of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement.
She was found guilty of deceiving victims during a televised broadcast in 2022, where she falsely claimed to have spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
Many individuals were persuaded to part with large sums, hoping for miraculous financial returns that never came.
Prior to the sentencing, the court ordered a mandatory pregnancy test, which confirmed she was not pregnant, allowing the sentencing to proceed without delay.
The verdict has generated widespread public reaction, with many praising the ruling as a strong stand for justice and a clear warning to those involved in similar scams.
The court’s decision has also been seen by many as a victory in the fight against fraudulent spiritual schemes and dishonest religious practices.
But, her legal team has argued that the ruling was unjust, indicating Agradaa was not given fair trial.
Her lead counsel, Richard Asare Baffour, has disclosed that they have petitioned to overturn both the conviction and the sentence.
“We filed the petition of appeal this morning because the judgment delivered by the court is so unreasonable, and the evidence on record does not support it.
“We have also stated that the trial as a whole is wrong in law, and we are saying that the judge demonstrated manifest bias by harassing and intimidating the accused,” he said on Citi FM Monday, July 7, 2025.
He added that they will file a bail application in the coming days to secure her temporary released as the appeal process unfolds.
