The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has raided an illegal mining site at Bronikrom, near Hwidiem in the Ahafo region.
The raid led to the arrest of some persons involved in illgal mining, also known as ‘galamsey’.
The operation is part of the government’s concerted efforts to combat the galamsey act, which has destroyed several forest reserves and polluted water bodies across the country.
In a post on his X page Sunday, November 2, 2025, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the perpetrators were operating just 10 metres away from the Hwidiem – Goaso Highway.
“NAIMOS continues to strike at the heart of illegal mining,” arresting several “Galamsey operators,” including a Burkinabe national, at a site dangerously close to major infrastructure, approximately 10 meters from the main Hwediem – Goaso Highway,” he posted.
He continued that “the continuous operations by NAIMOS is an indication of the government’s commitment to eradicating the menace of illegal mining that has caused widespread environmental devastation across the country.”
Some makeshift structures occupied by the operators were burnt by the team.
