Asafo Chiefs of the Ahanta Traditional Areas have solidified a unity pact aimed at fostering development across Ahanta land.
The agreement was reached during a gathering of Asafohenes from various communities under Ahanta Traditional Areas.
This alliance is viewed as a critical step in strengthening their joint efforts to push for development projects that are critical to the region’s future.
Again, the unity pact also seeks to correct negative perceptions of voodooism that have, for years, been associated with the Asafo chieftaincy title.
Chiefs think that a newfound spirit of togetherness will assist to shift public perception and restore Asafo’s dignity.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the gathering, Nana, Kwaidoo of Dadwen in Axim highlighted the lack of unity among traditional leaders as a key factor hindering infrastructural development in Ahanta.
He emphasized that ongoing chieftaincy disputes remain the primary obstacle to the area’s progress, depriving Ahanta of much-needed growth.
“Chiefs are agents of development, it is sad knowing that due to dispute among ourselves as chiefs we are rather denying the community of the needed development because we are not united with strong voice to demand the development our subjects need” he said.
“Again, our people begin to lose interest in our arbitrary power because they always hear us fighting over lands and chieftaincy titles…l believe with this unity pact, such issues will be resolved” he urged.
Abdul Mumin Issah, Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly commended the Asafo Chiefs for the unity pact.
He explains that this will also compel the political leaders to bring the necessary developmental projects to Ahanta land.
“When we unite, we become a strong tribe and we able to support or pressurise our political leaders to lobby for our fair share of the national cake…l believe this should not end here, but replicated among other tribes to ensure national unity”
