The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly has taken a major step toward inclusive development by disbursing start-up capital and working equipment to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to support their economic empowerment.
The exercise, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Aidoo, was carried out in collaboration with the Municipal Coordinator, Mr. Shaiku Damma, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mavis Kuukua Bissue, and the Department of Social Welfare.

Speaking on behalf of the MCE, the Municipal Coordinator, Mumuni Shaiku Damma, described the disbursement as a strategic intervention aimed at equipping PWDs with the necessary logistics and financial support to engage in sustainable income-generating activities.
According to him, the initiative underscores the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities are fully included in the municipality’s development agenda and supported to live dignified, productive, and independent lives.
The Municipal Coordinator emphasized that the support should not be viewed as charity but as an investment in the abilities and potential of the beneficiaries. He expressed confidence that the items and funds provided should be used judiciously to improve livelihoods and contribute to the socio-economic growth of the municipality.
He further reaffirmed the Assembly’s resolve to continue working closely with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations, to advance the welfare, rights, and social inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
The Municipal Director of Social Welfare, Madam Emma Nordzo, also advised beneficiaries to make effective and responsible use of the support received to ensure long-term benefits.
Some of the beneficiaries, in their remarks, expressed appreciation to the President, the Municipal Assembly, the MCE, and the Member of Parliament for the timely intervention and support.
Items distributed during the exercise included fufu pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, ovens, chest freezers, grinding machines, gas cylinders, bags of flour, sugar, cash, and other essential equipment.
