At Etsii Sunkwa, a community in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam district of the Central region, rape is reported of an 80-year-old woman by a 23-year-old man.
Reports indicate that the victim, who is a shea butter seller, was hawking from her hometown, Estsii Sunkwa, to a nearby community, Ofabil, to collect monies from her debtors.
On her way, the suspect, Kobina Nyame, whom according to residents is a notorious criminal and weed smoker, pulled a knife and demanded sex from the octogenarian or kill her if she refused.
He allegedly dragged the helpless woman to a nearby bush and raped her.
He threatened to kill the old woman if she dared told anyone of what ensued between them.
The victim, name withheld, struggling on her way home was seen by a motor rider who picked her and she revealed her ordeal to him. The Assemblyman of the community was informed.
The matter was reported to the chiefs and elders of Etsii Sunkwa to carry out the necessary rituals to cleanse the land from the filth brought upon it by the act.
An outraged youth of the community arrested the suspect and dragged him to the chief’s palace where he admitted to committing the crime.
He was subsequently handed over to the police.
The suspect is in the Ajumako District Police Command custody assisting with investigation, while the victim is receiving treatment at the Ajumako District Government Hospital.
