Akoma FM’s ‘Me Mpotemu Keteke’ stopover at Tech Junction Trotro Station attracted hundreds of artisans, traders, drivers, students, businesses and inhabitants within the Oforikrom Constituency to discuss issues of local and national interest.
The event is also part of series of Constituency engagements Akoma FM has embarked upon to whip public interest in the 2024 General elections.
Me Mpotemu (Community issues), an offshoot of Akoma FM’s flagship show, ‘GhanAkoma’, has been designed take radio closer to the people to discuss and find solutions to issues affecting their daily lives and businesses.
The outdoor event which has been set on wheels (Me Mpotemu Keteke) is an outside broadcast version of Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma and pitched camp at the Oforikrom Constituency.
The programme was a crowd puller, as it saw hundreds of artisans, residents, businesses and passersby troop to the forum to share their ideas on national issues, especially issues within the Oforikrom Constituency.
Identifiable groups such as Akoma FM Community Connect, Akoma FM Fan Club members represented at the forum as well as representatives from the various political parties, transport unions and other opinion leaders within the constituency.
A major issue that was topical and took centre stage at the forum were infrastructural development, economic conditions, cost of living. Another issue that popped up was poor road networks in some parts of the Oforikrom Constituency.
Gracing the public forum was Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Hon Abraham Kwame Antwi (Esq), NPP Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom Constituency, Michael Aidoo, NDC Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom Constituency, Sadat Ahmed, Independent Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom Constituency, Benjamin Afrane.
The MCE for Oforikrom Municipal, Hon Abraham Kwame Antwi, said “Akoma FM’s Me Mpotemu Keteke afforded patrons who trooped to the forum in their numbers, a platform to share their ideas. They took turns to ask questions baffling them and also had the chance to meet their duty bearers (MCE, Assembly members) to discuss their personal issues for prompt reactions and interventions.
He described the event as “a novel initiative that all other media houses must follow suit as a strategy to take the radio to the peoples’ doorstep and discuss their challenges and problems for possible solutions.”
He further urged the organizers (Akoma FM) to ensure the ‘Keteke’ stops at all vantage points and communities within Kumasi and beyond to help throw more light on their problems.
The NPP Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom Constituency, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, reiterated his commitment to empower the youth to get employable skills.
He said many youth in the area have benefited from his project. He said his vision is to transform the constituency.
The NDC Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom Constituency, Sadat Ahmed, said he will fight for the youth in the area. According to him, the next NDC government will support women through women banking project.
An independent candidate for Oforikrom Constituency, Benjamin Afrane, appealed to the people to vote against NPP and NDC to ensure effective development in the area.
He assured of disbursing his common fund to assembly members for development project. The event is set to make another stop at Tafo/Pankrono Constituency.
The move is to gather the traders, residents and others and give them listening ears to their problems ahead of the elections.
