Former President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has described the New Patriotic Party government as the biggest scam that has ever happened to Ghana.
He says the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia led government is the worst ever in the Fourth Republic in managing the economy.
Speaking at the opening of the 2nd Lawyers Conference of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Mahama said the economic the current economic hardship is self inflicted.
“At this time, Ghana our motherland is in deep crises. Our economy is in a dire situation. Our economic fortunes deteriorates every passing day and this places our democracy in danger by the stress that it places on our people in respect of their daily survival.
“Ghana is facing an unprecedented economic tailspin with a runaway inflation which is currently measured above 30%. A fast depreciating currency trading above ₵10 to $1 dollar. An unsubstantiated debt burden exceeding 90% above GDP with the inclusion of the recent Bank of Ghana financing of the debt, the AfriExim facility recently approved by Parliament, the Sinohydro loan, with the collateralization of our GETFund and our energy sector levy,” he said.
He described the development as “self inflicted”, making the current administration the worst ever in the nation’s history.
“Let me add without equivocation that this threat to the progress of our dear country is completely self inflicted by a government that has proved to be the greatest political scam in the history of the Fourth Republic.
“By the current indices and general hardship Ghanaians are suffering today, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government remains the worst ever in the history of our Fourth Republic,” he noted.
He expressed the need to bring the nation back on track.
“The soul of mother Ghana is bleeding from the hypocrisy and injustice we face daily. We need to heal our land and restore the values enshrined in our national motto, Freedom and Justice.”
