A former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, has described as a “complete error” and a “mistake”, the election of William Kwaku Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as Ghana’s President.
She says certain deeds of the President is evident of the mistake the citizenry made in making him the first gentleman of the land.
The public relations expert cum politician was commenting on the recent national honours bestowed on certain personalities in the country when she made that remark.
President Akufo-Addo on Monday, December 30, 2024, presented state honours to some distinguished Ghanaians who have helped served the nation in various categories.
Amongst the persons honoured on the day were Members of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Abetifi, Mavis Hawa Koomson and Bryan Acheampong, whom many have described as undeserving of the honour.
Both Madam Hawa Koomson and Bryan Acheampong were ‘Member Awardees’ of the ‘Order of the Volta’, something the public have criticised, including the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Critics are of the view that such state honours are reserved for persons of repute who have made immense contributions towards the development of the nation. They argue the inclusion of certain people in the awards truncates the integrity of the honours.
Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Thursday, January 02, 2025, Nana Yaa Jantuah said she could not wrap her head around certain people who were included in the honours by the President on the day.
“Akufo-Addo is a mistake. Ghana we made a mistake for voting for him. Nana Addo is an error. He is a complete error which we voted for. I didn’t understand what he did two days ago, that those who did nothing meaningful in your government, you award them,” she chastised.
Nana Yaa also singled out the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was given the highest award on the land by the President.
Meanwhile, National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, wants a national committee to be constituted to determine who qualifies for such honours going forward, in order to sustain the pedigree of such state honours.
