President of the Republic, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appointed Julie Essiam to replace Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah as Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
This follows the sacking of Dr. Owusu-Amoah by the President and dissolution of the Board of the GRA.
Essiam, prior to her appointment was the Commissioner responsible for the Support Services Division of the GRA.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the dissolution of the Board which was chaired by Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi was due to some disagreements.
The move by the President comes days after the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, accused the GRA of harassing businesses for taxes due to unrealistic targets.
The dissolved GRA Board had Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi as the Board Chairman, while, Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Adelaide Ahwireng, Prof. Peter Ohene Kyei, Kwabena Boateng, Dela Obeng-Sakyi, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei were members.
