President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admonished his colleague African leaders to channel their resources to developing their countries than going to foreign countries cup in hand.

The President says the continent can be developed to become self sufficient if its leaders champion the course to aid the exertion of the seriousness attributed to work by Africans on foreign lands in their home countries.

Speaking at the Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington DC on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, Akufo-Addo said if African leaders stop begging aid and invest on the continent, it will make them earn some respect.

“If we stop being beggars and spend African money inside the continent, Africa will not need to ask for respect from anyone,” he charged fellow leaders.

“We will get the respect we deserve. If we make it prosperous as it should be, respect will follow.”

He charged Africans to embrace synergy in seeing the growth of the continent as the world sees them as one people.

“Africans are more resilient outside the continent than inside. We must bear in mind that to the outside world, [there’s] nothing like Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya, we are simply Africans. Our destiny as people depends on each other,” he reiterated.
