John Dramani Mahama has bemoaned the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Act” which the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has rendered in a stalemate.
The former President says the Constitution is explicit on what the President ought to do when a legislation is passed by Parliament, a treatment he expected of Akufo-Addo towards the bill which is also known as the Anti-LGBTQ/Gay bill.
According to him, the failure of the President to assent to the bill since its passage in February 2024, “has set a dangerous precedent” for the nation’s governance.
“The current legal impasse created by the Akufo Addo/Bawumia administration on the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Act” passed by Parliament sets a dangerous precedent for our governance.
“The constitutional directives for action by the President are quite clear and need not result in this stalemate,” he stated.
John Mahama, during his encounter with the clergy Tuesday, October 01, 2024, said he cannot support any form of union between two same sexes and animals, due to his faith as a Christian and the moral values of the Ghanaian society.
Mahama assured the clergy that any form of union relating to LGBTQ+ will not be tolerated in his government.
“As I have publicly stated, I am a proud Assemblies of God Church member. My faith does not permit same-sex marriages or relationships, nor does it endorse human-animal relations or gender changes. This is a fundamental belief that I hold, grounded in my faith.
“I, therefore, assure you that the promotion of LGBTQ++ activities will have no place in our schools and communities under my government,” he assured.
