Tuesday’s State of the Nation address (SONA) delivered by President Akufo-Addo did not give account of issues relating to Ghana, but that of a different country, National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, is claiming.
He says the address given by the President did not reflect the realities in the country making him wonder the nation the update was about.
He explains the major problem of unemployment confronting many citizens was not touched on, citing the current rate of 14.7% to the 8.4% in 2017 when the NDC handed over power, with over 30% youth unemployment currently facing the State according to the Ghana Statistical Service.
The NDC’s National Communications Officer also touched on the government’s failure to pay the 9 months arrears to beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corp, as well as the 4 months stipend which has not been paid to National Service Personnel, culminating to the hardship Ghanaians are going through as a result of unemployment.
The private legal practitioner was speaking with Yaa Titi Okrah on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. He noted the President was speaking about an imaginary country on his mind and can never be Ghana, for the fact that he omitted unemployment in his address.
