The Ghana Police Service has reassured residents of Akwatia that the military will only be called upon during the upcoming by-election only if it is absolutely required.
Speaking to the media on Friday, August 29, the Director General of Operations, COP Vance Baba Gariba clarified that the military will be on standby and won’t become involved unless the need arises.
“The military will be only on standby. As and when we need them, then we will deploy them, but if we don’t need the military, then we will not request for the deployment of the military. They are only going to be on standby,” COP Gariba stated.
He urged the populace to discharge their civic duty in a peaceful manner and assured them complete police protection throughout the process.
“I want to reassure all the good people of Akwatia that they should come out in their numbers and exercise their franchise. The GPS will continue to reassure of their safety and security during this period.”
The Police Service emphasized that it is fully prepared to maintain law and order, working in collaboration with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
