Striker Albert Amoah scored the solitary goal as Asante Kotoko travelled all the way to Berekum to pick all three points at the expense of Samuel Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea.
It was the first game of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League for both teams.
Broadcast live on Onua TV, Saturday’s encounter at the Golden City Park saw the hosts put pressure on their opponents, resulting in captain Samba O’Neil conceding a Yellow Card very early in the game.
A 1-V-1 opportunity for Amoah to break the deadlock was fluffed as Chelsea goalie Emmanuel Adu made his torso bigger thanĀ the post to deny the striker.
There was more responsibility on Amoah as his strike partner Kwame Opoku had to be substituted early in the game due to injury.
The former Legon Cities player made no mistake in the 80th minute, however, as he scored to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead.
The score stayed the same as Abdul-Karim Zito’s side picked their first win in the season.
They will now head to Africa for their CAF Confederation Cup match against Nigeria’s Kwara United.
