The Norwegian Embassy in Accra is said to have issued alerts to Schengen and Western Diplomatic Missions in Accra as well as the European Border Coast Guard Agency regarding the missing of some 10 Ghanaian para-athletes.

These para-athletes are said to have travelled to Norway for the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon slated for Saturday, April 27.

However, upon reaching Oslo, they failed to register for the event for participation.

One of the athletes, by name Nana Antwi, was later arrested by Norwegian security officials, attempting to depart the country for Sweden on a one-way train ticket.

Their coach, George Gyamfi Gyasi, is said to have collapsed on Sunday, April 28 and admitted to the Oslo University Hospital, ULLEVAL, but passed away barely three weeks later.

These were contained in a security brief from the Ministry of National Security to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“Cognisant of the development’s potential to hinder future Ghanaian sporting contingents, your Ministry is apprised for necessary action,” the brief signed by National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah concluded.
