The Attorney-General (A-G), Godfred Yeboah Dame, has responded to the petition by the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, asking the Supreme Court to strike the case against him regarding the ambulance case trial.

According to the A-G, Dr. Forson’s application for mistrial has no grounds per the dictates of the laws of the land to warrant those demands from the apex court.

In a statement issued by the Attorney-General’s Office, it said “that no proper grounds have been canvassed by the applicant to warrant a grant of this application, which is unknown to the laws governing criminal law and practice in Ghana.”

The A-G says Dr. Ato Forson wants to escape trial, the reason he has filed for the mistrial which he is aware is unfounded based on the laws.

“That the instant application is a smokescreen and a veiled attempt by.the applicant to abort his legitimate prosecution for actions committed as a public officer which led to the State losing colossal amounts of funds. Same is incompetent as no one has immunity from prosecution under the laws of Ghana.

He noted he cannot be stopped from prosecuting any crime in the country per provisions of the constitution as it is his mandate to do so.

“That I respectfully say that the Attorney-General is vested with the constitutional responsibility to prosecute all crimes within the Republic and cannot be prohibited from discharging this constitutional duty in respect of any person in Ghana as all persons are equal before the law,” portions of the statement indicated.
