Italian Serie A giants AS Roma have announced the departure of manager Jose Mourinho from the club “with immediate effect”.

The announcement was made by the club on Tuesday, January 16.

“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

Mourinho became the 60th manager for the Giallorossi when he signed for them in May, 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur.

In his first season, he led the Italian capital club to the Europa Conference League title.

He also guided them to the Europa League final last season, losing to Sevilla on penalties.

The former Chelsea manager was in his third season with the Yellow and Reds with his contract set to end in June.

AS Roma are currently 9th in Serie A with 29 points, just behind the champions Napoli.
