Retired Black Stars and Asante Kotoko player Sarfo Gyamfi has commended the inclusion of former captain Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah in the activities of the senior national men’s soccer team.
He says the presence of the two, particularly their pre-match talks to the players in the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, contributed to the wins.
Stephen Appiah, a former captain of the team, had been appointed a Vice Chairman of the team’s Management Committee in a shake-up after the failure to make the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) while Asamoah Gyan was seen very close to the team in Accra and among the travelling delegation to Morocco for the Madagascar game.
Gyan, who is the first player to have scored for the Black Stars at the World Cup, was seen at the final training ahead of the Chad game speaking to a couple of players.
After the 5-0 drubbing of Chad, he was seen congratulating the players on-pitch.
He also travelled to Al Hoceima in Morocco, where Ghana secured a 3-0 win over the Barea.

Sarfo Gyamfi believes the move to include the two in camp is commendable.
“Football is all about determination and when I saw that Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah were in camp to talk to the boys, I knew things would go well because for us footballers, if you have someone who has done it all and captained the team talk to you, it motivates you,” he said on Agoro Fie on Onua TV on Wednesday, March 26.
“Usually that gives you morale on the matchday and you play your heart out.”
Ghana scored a total of eight goals in the two qualifiers and conceded none.
The Stars will next play in the qualifiers in September against Chad and Mali.
