The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko has condemned Sunday’s “detestable” conduct by a section of the club’s supporters after the 1-0 home loss to Nations FC.

The fans were said to have attacked match officials, for which the club has been charged.

Asante Kotoko are said to have breached Section 16 of the GFA Disciplinary Code 2019.

“It is alleged that their supporters behaved inappropriately towards the Match Officials of the said game,” the Ghana Football Association said.

“It is also alleged that the club’s Social Media commentary on the Match Officials of the said game constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”

The IMC has issued a statement to condemn the act by their supporters.

“We write to condemn the detestable conduct of some persons belonging to our support base whose actions yesterday in our Premier League Matchday 23 against Nations FC went contrary to what this prestigious football club stands for,” a release on Monday, March 25 said.

“It must be noted that under no circumstance will Asante Kotoko condone any act that violates and undermines the sporting integrity of the game.”

It assured that steps have been taken to collaborate with the GFA to address the issue.

Meanwhile, the club has called on the GFA to address the issue of officiating in the Ghana Premier League.

According to the IMC, the standard of refereeing has been below what the League deserves.

“Our call is not only for Kotoko, but as a beacon of Ghana’s football heritage, there is the need to ensure fair officiating for all, as most teams have suffered badly from the inconsistencies of some referees.”
