The overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has disclosed that had it not been his uncle, then Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Prempeh Agyeman II, he wouldn’t have been born.

He says there is quite some age difference between himself and the sibling he directly follows, due to his mother’s intention of divorcing his father.

According to him, his father was a womaniser, and for that reason, after the sibling he directly follows was born, the mother left the marriage not to marry again due to his father’s love for multiple women.

The Asantehene explains that it was his uncle, Nana Agyemang Prempeh, who advised his mother to return to the husband’s house because, he (Nana Prempeh II) had not gotten what he wanted.

Following the advise, the Asantehene says his mother,  Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem the late, returned to to her husband and conceived him.

After his birth, the Otumfuo says his mother insisted quitting the marriage because the husband hadn’t stop his extra marital affairs.

When she Afia Kobi relayed her intentions to his brother, the Asantehene, Nana Prempeh II, he told her to get divorced because he has now gotten what he wanted.

The Asantehene made the disclosure at his 74th birthday and 25th anniversary reign Thanksgiving service at the St. Cyrian Anglican Church in Kumasi Monday, May 06, 2024.

“My mother told me she wanted a divorce from my father after giving birth to my sibling, the one I come after. She said my father was a womanizer. She told me my uncle, then Asantehene, Osei Agyeman Prempeh (Nana Kwame Kyeretwie) told her not to get divorce because he hasn’t gotten what he wanted [from my mother’s marriage]. So, my parents got separated for a while before my mother returned to conceive me.

“She said my father was continuing with his deeds after giving birth to me so she said she wouldn’t stay in the marriage. And she said my uncle told her that ‘Afia, I’ve gotten what I wanted so if you can’t, get divorced’,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II narrated, as he was told by his mother.
